White Powder found Alan 21, August

Fox News are reporting that two McCain campaign offices received envelopes containing and unidentified white powder.

A spokesman told the US news network that the first letter was found in the Denver office at about 5 p.m. ET. Another was found in the Manchester, N.H., office more than an hour later.

Both offices have been evacuated and authorities have been notified. Staff on site at these offices are receiving medical attention.

Russia is Back… Alan 21, August

Or so the new Russian President would like us to believe. But is Medvedev really in charge of the war in Georgia? Or is Putin still pulling the strings?

Russian Invasion of Georgia

Russian Invasion of Georgia

So who really started it? Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili undoubtedly started this whole affair by trying to crush resistance in two breakaway republics. I think he underestimated the Russians who seem to have been waiting for him to take action. The overwhelming response from Moscow caught everyone in the west off guard.

Both sides have a lot of explaining to do, but we need to be really careful we don’t escalate this into a new cold war. If Moscow thinks it’s being backed into a corner by the rest of the world it may react first. That is something no one wants.

The Washington/Warsaw deal over the missile shield could be the proverbial straw. Watch this space, and watch out if you are in the Ukraine…

Obama: I’ve decided Alan 21, August

Obama in South Carolina

Obama in South Carolina

Sen. Barack Obama today told the world that he has decided on his VP candidate. Did he tell us? Well no, the senator is remaining tight lipped about his choice.

His campaign has already stated it will reveal the VP candidate via a text message to his supporters before anyone else. So we will keep waiting..

Tim Kaine seems to be the top contender so far. Does anyone still believe it will be Hillary? The only way Billary (um I meaqn Hillary) would get on the ticket is if Obama really thinks he is going to lose.

Good Old Gordon Alan 21, August

Gordon Brown spend most of his visit to Afghanistan trying to convince people (or maybe himself) that he is down but not out…. As if we believe that. It is becoming clear to everyone the only way Labour can win the next election is without Brown at the helm.

Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown

Could Miliband be the next Tony? Is he set to lead us out of the big hole Brown has dropped us into? I don’t know if I would go that far. But someone has to start the process and Mr Miliband has my thanks for that.

Brown is very good at reacting to events as they unfold and that makes it hard for others in the party to challenge him. But do we want a PM always on the back foot? Someone just waiting for things to happen so that they can respond and look good? Or do we want a leader…
